Caught?
Keep calm, bro…
we’ll help you out now!

In this note, which is based on my personal years of experience, I want to talk about how to properly recover after an incident when you’ve been caught shoplifting.

Let’s start from the moment it happened:

– So, when you get caught, your body starts releasing *adrenaline, and it produces so much that some people gain superhuman abilities – like in critical and dangerous situations that threaten your life or health. And if you’ve led a healthy lifestyle, avoided drugs, and didn’t consume much alcohol, then most likely, you’ll be able to act much more rationally, your actions will be well-thought-out, with a minimal number of mistakes, unlike those who systematically indulge or even occasionally drink alcohol.
*Adrenaline is just a general name for the process of internal mobilization, in reality, the process is incredibly more complex than a single word!

Think of the seasoned lone wolf from the forest thicket, dwelling in places where only pure reason can lead to prey worthy of a super-predator. The one who behaves predictably for himself and makes instant decisions in case of danger. He won’t be confused or think long because of the fog of doubts that harmful habits lead to. This wolf is a symbol of pure reason and rational actions.

Also, in the case of real shoplifting, when you were caught or a similar situation occurred, a clear mind will give you more chances… … that at that moment you will be maximally collected and capable of thinking quickly and clearly, showing proactive behavior, to either avoid punishment or leave the crime scene strategically and flawlessly.

At one point in my life, I intentionally abstained from alcohol and nicotine for a couple of years, which gave incredible sensations in any adrenaline situation:
– anticipation of the actions of staff and other store visitors;
– quick analysis of opportunities;
– understanding of the store structure;
– understanding the location of cameras;
– one’s own behavior up to the instant transformation into some kind of shadow inside the store, which is not looked at by the staff or the best of the best actors playing the role of an ordinary person who just came into the store to gawk.

I’d like to emphasize that store personnel can sometimes be highly experienced individuals who may even subconsciously sense something amiss in your behavior, such as fear or uncertainty, etc. Your emotions can be conveyed in various ways, from facial expressions, gait, posture, to even the scent of your skin in those moments, and I will not delve into the subject of energy exchange – in time, everyone will come to understand that it definitely exists.

But it won’t work if you think that it’s enough to stop doing something you shouldn’t do for a couple of days… usually it takes a couple of weeks and that’s a fact! And also, due to the nature of my activity, I monitored some other shoplifters who came to our business, for example, from sports, it was very indicative when an amateur shoplifter acts more effectively than others only because of a healthy lifestyle!

Here I’ll stop and won’t try to make you more efficient, decide for yourself, and just help with advice.

Moving on to the next stage, let’s start with the case when you were caught. Regardless of whether it went to the police or you managed to resolve the situation on the spot, or even if you managed to escape – adrenaline was released, and there was a lot of it (precisely all of it).

The approximate period from the beginning to the end of the expenditure of all your adrenaline volume in case the situation lasts long is from several hours to a couple of days if you were clean before and your body is healthy! And remember, I know about hundreds of such situations, and I have personal experience of how I managed to resist psychological and physical pressure from the police for several days, and it was only thanks to adrenaline…
But how bad I felt afterward, it’s terrible, however, that’s what this note is about:
– adrenaline in our body is not infinite, as at some point the production is not enough to replenish the reserves for use. Let’s imagine it, for example, as a “bucket” that the body constantly fills, and we scoop from it little by little each time we leave the store with stolen goods, and the more often we do it little by little and not all at once, the larger the volume of the “bucket” we develop. But when we empty it in a nonstop of one situation, our body will need huge resources to replenish the entire volume afterward, which also cannot be added to it instantly after the problem is over!

And also after this depletion, you are unlikely to be able to take anything from there again, as the flow decreases and for some time you become incapable of new risks – it’s similar to post-traumatic stress disorder, which many go through after critical situations, during which the appetite almost completely disappears, as well as empathy turns off and it’s even difficult to simply communicate with someone close. I have not met people who managed to recover quickly after such events and return to criminal activity without a rehabilitation period.

And how can you cope with this state? A long time ago I read an interesting study in which specialists advise first of all not to sleep all night after the incident, this approach is used by the military and is confirmed by actual tests. If you were caught, even if left in the police station, do not succumb to sleep. It requires skillful proactive planning of your next steps and decisions:
– calmly thinking through your testimony for the investigation
(it is very important not to refuse, but to give testimony in accordance with your interests or so as to mitigate the punishment);
– recalling the experience of others from memory;
– recalling knowledge of the Criminal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure from memory;
– searching for possible weaknesses in the case;
– remembering what happened before (your other episodes);
– deciphering psychological manipulations and pressure from the police
(they will definitely pour a lot of wild nonsense into your ears, I think we’ll describe in another article);
– working out possible solutions in case of different scenarios of events;
– quality self-soothing, that everything will end without significant consequences.

You may feel weakened closer to the morning, and then you can take a short nap – literally for a few dozen minutes, exclusively just to ‘reboot’ your brain.

*Digression in case the situation was short, for example, if you managed to escape or were released immediately in case you managed to negotiate with the store staff or just pay:
– your adrenaline is not spent completely, you urgently need to take a sedative so as not to spend the adrenaline to the end, thus the recovery period will be minimal and it is better to continue actions already the next day applying my recommendations!

Further actions should be related to reducing the consequences of the incident if they still affected you, and returning to a normal state of health and high spirits. Take a couple of days off to recover physically. It is important to eat well these days, walk outside and calm the agitated nervous system, just don’t lie on the couch in depression!!! Be sure to correctly take a complex of B vitamins and it is critically important to get magnesium (for example, Panangin), as your engine was running at high revs all this time spending all the electrolyte on which your nervous system works!

But after that, it is important for you to gradually start using adrenaline again – little by little, but you already need to start using it, otherwise, your body may mark you as a coward and weakling, who should not use adrenaline again, and, what’s more, you will lose the habit of using it. Your bucket will most likely turn into a cup from which you cannot get a result more than just leaving the house to a crowded place!In every situation from the past, your body took as much as needed, but now you have little, and the only way is not to be self-eaters of your self-esteem and courage to recovery. After the break, start with small things to reacquaint yourself with the sharp sensations of ‘hunting’, even if it’s just gum or a chocolate bar, it doesn’t matter!!! Just do it every day and you will definitely keep the entire volume of your vessel! Follow this plan, and you will find that your inner wolf is ready to fight again, your ‘adrenaline vessel’ overflows, and you are ready to meet any challenges on the way, using the experience and skills that you honed in the past.

You too must maintain this rage and survival instinct that drives you to move along your “hunting trails” with clear consciousness and a healthy assessment of risks. After the experienced stress, your body, like a pack of weakened wolves, needs a reboot to return to former strength. A pause in actions is a time to restore energy resources, a temporary retreat for a leap that will be made anew.

P.S. The example of the wolf is not accidental, as we are also animals and also have similar capabilities in case your gene code had warriors, hunters, explorers in the past! For curiosity, you can google stories of lone wolves that have been observed for a long time, it’s very interesting.

I also recommend reading as a continuation of the thought the article about my view on shoplifting:
